  • Overview

    Provide mentor coaching, new employee training, and overall support to child development staff. Ensure that teaching staff are getting the direction needed to successfully teach and implement the assigned curriculum and practices which promote high quality learning and school readiness skills.

    Works cooperatively with assigned Early Childhood Managers for curriculum implementation. Provides CLASS assessments and teaching strategies gold and uses outcomes from these assessments to plan for mentoring and training. Report any findings to Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and the Assistant Director of Education.


    • Engage in direct and respectful communication with members of the classroom team, others in the program, families and those in community.
    • Train and mentor on Best Early Childhood Practices, Creative Curriculum, Performance Standards, KDHE childcare regulations, Forms and Assessments.
    • Create an environment that supports problem solving and decision-making by staff, families, and local communities.
    • Develop and maintain positive, supportive communication with Early Childhood staff.
    • Ensure fidelity to developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment models (Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies Gold, CLASS) and others as applicable.
    • Provide leadership and direction to early childhood teachers.
    • Assist staff with proper implementation of the assessments and curriculum.
    • Conduct center and family child care site observations to promote developmental appropriate beliefs and for quality and compliance.
    • Utilize CLASS and TS Gold data to support teachers in developing appropriate teaching techniques.
    • Provide individualized coaching to teachers to analyze individual and classroom child outcomes data to support child learning.
    • Work directly with teaching staff to ensure accurate child assessments are conducted, lesson plans are individualized to the child’s particular needs and child development services are provided that result in children meeting (exceeding) their developmental milestones.
    • Analyze data and recommend instructional strategies to enhance the child’s performance and ability to meet their developmental milestones.
    • Coach and mentor classroom staff, supporting curriculum and facilitating assessment-based planning, utilizing GOLD, CLASS and others.
    • Implement support for staff development, monitor progress toward program and staff goals.
    • Use feedback and self-reflection to assess own practice and to further professional growth.
    • Develop individual coaching plans, with specific goals and areas for growth identified which are based on classroom and teacher observations and data.
    • Train new teaching staff and maintain support as needed while they gain knowledge of their role and the responsibilities of their position.
    • Plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes.
    • Develop individual mentor coaching plans, with specific goals and areas for growth identified which are based on classroom and teacher observations.



    • BA/BS degree preferred and extensive training and/or specialized advanced certification and/or licensing.
    • Requires one to three of related experience. 
    • Requires working knowledge of specialized practices and procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds for various classroom and event needs or put a child on a changing table.
