  • Overview

    Prepares and presents trainings for staff and parents. Mentors new nurses. Serves as consultant/facilitator for Head Start 0-5 Program health services (dental, environmental, medical, and nutritional) to children, families and staff. Assists in the identification, coordination, documentation, completion of service and evaluation of health or family problems of enrolled children; coordinates health follow-up services to identified children; implements screening; documents all health/family services that have been provided by the nurse and works directly with pregnant women.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides health and oral related training for teachers and family services staff.
    • Trains nurses on health protocols.
    • Serves as consultant to appropriate Head Start 0-5 Program staff regarding individual child's health needs.
    • Provides health education training for parent meetings as requested.
    • Provides educational training to community groups as requested/approved by manager and program director.
    • Assist with meeting health requirements for all participants.
    • Reviews and updates child medical records for completion, follow-up and/or current compliance every 30 days.
    • Reviews enrolling child files to accept children's files for classroom attendance per KDHE licensing standards and Performance Standards.
    • Monitors and/or completes initial health screenings (vision,hearing) for Head Start 0-5 Program children enrolled in a center based program within 45 days of entry.
    • Trains staff in health screening procedures.
    • Communicates with parents and appropriate staff regarding health status of children with identified health concerns.
    • Maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians, dentists and other local health care providers in order to provided optimal health-care for enrolled children.

    Qualifications

    • BSN or RN Required
    • Two years experience in community health, pediatrics, OB/GYN or school nursing.
    • Knowledge of young children and pregnant women.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects or materials up to 30 pounds.
