  • Overview

    The Cook will be responsible for all aspects of food service including:  Ordering, securing, preparing, distributing, record-keeping, maintaining supplies and cleaning up for the Head Start program and participants.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Setting up family-style food service for staff and children, planning and/or implementing menus, working with staff to support healthy eating, providing nutrition information to staff and participating families and supporting classroom activities.  It is the responsibility of the Cook to continually meet and/or exceed Health Department regulations and CACFP guidelines.


    • Prepares breakfast, lunch and snacks on daily basis.
    • Meets and/or exceeds the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) nutritional guidelines.
    • Maintains a clean and sanitary environment at all times. Maintains invenotry of all food and service items, rotates stock and orders additional items as needed.
    • Practices appropriate food storage, ensuring that all food is covered and labeled, and all non-refrigerated food is stored at least six (6) inches from the floor.



    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Food Handler training upon initial assignment. 
    • Ability to adapt to interruptions while working.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects or materials up to 30 pounds.
